MEYDAN (UAE), 15th FEBRUARY 2018
Gr. II PA- 5 year olds and over- AED 182,500
When winning the Mazrat Al Ruwayah (Gr. II PA), Paddy’s Day
(Burning Sand) became the first Purebred Arabian in the history of American breeding to win a total of a million dollars of prize-money. The race was led by Af Al Sajanjle
(Af Al Buraq), while the eventual winner sat four wide, avoiding any kickback. Ridden early, he still had two lengths to make up on the leader when passing the 300 meters mark. When Af Al Sajanjle and Cakouet de Bozouls
(Dahess) began to weaken, the Doug Watson-trained horse came to take the lead 150 meters from the post, looking visibly more comfortable than his opponents on the Meydan dirt. The "FR" Cakouet de Bozouls, who was carrying three kilos less than the winner, finished second by a little over a length, in front of Af Al Sajanjle.

THE BEST AMERICAN
A three-time winner of the Arabian American Triple Crown during the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Festival, Paddy’s Day has also twice been voted Darley Award Horse of the Year in the United States. He won twenty-four races, including eight Group Is PA, from thirty-nine starts. On Thursday, his jockey, Pat Dobbs, spoke to the press: "There wasn’t much pace. The horse didn’t run as well as he did last time here. He knows his job. I should have won on him last time out, but he travelled too easily. He likes to go in front. This horse improves physically with each week.
